The regeneration of Camp Hill in Nuneaton was named the best of its kind in the country at an industry awards ceremony last week (Thursday 3rd November).

Bluebell from Barratt Mercia scooped the accolade for Best Regeneration Project at the prestigious Housebuilder Awards 2011, which are organised by The Housebuilder magazine in conjunction with the HomeBuilders Federation (HBF).

L-R: Ian Sadler (Barratt), Keith Barker (Wienerberger), Peter Young (PinCH), Andrew Dauncey (Barratt) and Alexander Armstrong (host and comedian)

Construction work at Bluebell to provide some 800 new homes has been ongoing since winter 2009. The scheme is a partnership between Barratt, Pride in Camp Hill (PinCH), Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Warwickshire County Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Already many families have moved into the new homes and the transformation of the area is now clear to see. A planning application for the second phase of Bluebell, to include 141 homes, is due to be submitted later this month, whilst the environmentally friendly Discovery House was opened to the public recently.

The judges said that 'Bluebell has set a benchmark for future urban regeneration schemes'. The housebuilder's work was further endorsed as leading the way with its parent company, Barratt Developments Plc being named Housebuilder of the Year at the same event.

Barratt Project Director, Andrew Dauncey, Barratt Technical Director, Ian Sadler and PinCH Chairman, Peter Young attended the event to receive the award.

Andrew Dauncey said, "We are thrilled to have received this prestigious award, which demonstrates that our work in Camp Hill really is leading the way when it comes to urban regeneration in this country.

"Throughout this project we have endeavoured to provide higher quality, better design and engage closely with local communities at the heart of our business."

Peter Young, said, "The success of this project reflects our commitment to partnership working and our close working relationship with the local community. We are delighted to see the dedication and investment of all involved has been rewarded in this way."

The Housebuilder award follows a string of other successes in industry competitions over the past two years.

In 2010, Camp Hill was named Regeneration Scheme of the Decade in the RegenWM Awards, whilst earlier this year the development took silver in the What House? Awards, also for Best Regeneration Scheme.

The partners are hoping for good things again, at the 2011 What House? Awards, which are announced later this month (November).
