Barratt Mercia's award-winning Bluebell new homes development in Nuneaton is not only helping people to find high quality housing, but is also helping local people to find work and is bringing a real sense of pride to the area, according to local residents who have found employment at the development.

The company which is working with the Pride in Camp Hill project have awarded over £3.9million in contracts to locally based businesses for work at Bluebell, is currently employing 35% of its workforce from within 15 miles of Nuneaton at the development.

And Darlene Phillips, who is 21 and from Camp Hill, not only found work at Bluebell, but has also achieved professional accreditation as a result of the work she has been doing and a course that her employer CJS Contract Cleaning put her forward for.

"I've lived in Camp Hill for my whole life" comments Darlene. "And I was on a course from the Job Centre when the opportunity came up to work at Bluebell.

"I've been working at the development for around six months now and I've recently finished an NVQ in cleaning. All of the assessment was carried out on the job at the development and it's going to be a long term benefit to have a professional qualification.

"It's great to work locally, too, and it's been especially nice to see how much has changed since work started at Bluebell. The area never looked like people cared before, but there's a real pride being taken now and people are proud to live here.

"There's no doubt that employing people from the local area is a real boost. It definitely shows that Barratt care about the local community, as they are providing jobs for people who live here and helping us to contribute to the positive changes that are happening in our community."

Craig Spalding, Director of CJS Contract Cleaning who provide Barratt Mercia's show home cleaning at Bluebell, comments "We work closely with Barratt to find local people who they can depend on to provide the high quality cleaning services they need. It was especially important for us to find the right people locally because of the benefits that employment opportunities and training bring to the area.

"And it's great to have people who are from Camp Hill because they live nearby and are always on hand. We're delighted that Darlene has been able to gain a qualification from her work, too. We always encourage our staff to work towards NVQ qualifications and it's great to see that our staff have been taking advantage of the opportunity."

Andrew Dauncey, Project Director for Barratt Mercia, commented "Our vision for Bluebell was always that it would be a development that would bring a wide range of benefits to Camp Hill - and employment is a key part of that.

"Now that the development is taking place, it's great to see that vision coming together and when we hear that people are finding work, picking up qualifications and gaining experience on our sites it's a sure sign that we're going about things in a way that really benefits the community."
