Children have been in a spin at Camp Hill over the summer break taking part in a series of 'zorbing' events. This increasingly popular activity for thrill seeking youngsters involves rolling downhill inside a large inflatable ball.

The event was made possible by a partnership between local housebuilder Barratt Mercia, Pride in Camp Hill (PinCH) and Camp Hill Education Sports and Social (CHESS) Centre.

The activity originated in New Zealand, but came to Nuneaton for a session in August as part of a programme to provide local youngsters with plenty to do in Nuneaton this summer.

The activity was chosen by the youngsters in feedback given at a previous CHESS event earlier this year and anyone interested in taking part could drop by the CHESS Centre on Cedar Road to register.

Jackie Earl, Locality Coordinator for CHESS, commented "Young people enjoyed two afternoons of Zorbing during the summer and had a fab time! The activity attracted lots of children and young people aged 5 to 16 years old and they all enjoyed taking part in something different."

Andrew Dauncey, Project Director for Barratt Mercia, comments, "We are pleased to say that the day was a success and we are very pleased that we were a part of this event. It was great to see the children enjoying themselves on their summer break and being able to contribute to that by funding the event."

"We're committed to contributing as much as possible to the community in Nuneaton as part of our Bluebell development - and whilst we're focussed on providing the highest quality of homes for local people, we also believe that working with the Youth and Community Service at CHESS is of the utmost importance."

And Chris Egan, Programme Manager for PinCH, commented "It is great that the young people in Camp Hill have been able to take advantage of this experience. This is another example of how partnership working is supporting the local community, and providing fun activities to engage with."

Work to build some 800 new homes at the Bluebell development on the Camp Hill estate began back in October 2009 and is due to complete over the next 10 to 12 years. Barratt Mercia has been confirmed as meriting the maximum five star official rating from the Home Builders Federation (HBF) for the second year in a row. The news was announced after more than 20,000 new home buyers across the country took part in this year's HBF customer satisfaction survey.
