A ten year old pupil from Camp Hill Primary School in Nuneaton has won a poster design competition to promote site safety at Barratt Mercia's Bluebell.
Jake Baxter entered the competition where he put into practice what he learnt on an educational tour of the development, which was organised in a bid to teach children all about the dangers of playing on a building site.
Jake's bold and colourful design was chosen the winner ahead of second place Leah Tedds and third place Ben Straker-Luckman after the judges were impressed by the detail of his poster, which discourages children from playing on dangerous building sites.
A presentation was recently held at the school and Jake's design will now be made into an actual poster which will be hung around the development to warn other children of the dangers of playing on building sites.
Andrew Dauncey, Project Director at Barratt Mercia, comments "Bluebell is a family orientated development so it is very important to us to carry out site safety visits with local schools in order to promote the dangers of playing on a building site.
"Many children do not realise the dangers of building sites and perceive it as a fun and exciting place to play. However, that is certainly not the case and these visits help to raise awareness and hopefully discourage children from entering building sites unattended.
"As a follow up activity, and for the children to put into practice what they learnt throughout the course of the tour, we offered them the chance to enter a poster design competition.
"We were very impressed with the high standard of all the entries we received but Jake's simple yet effective design certainly caught the eye of the judges.
"Jake's design will now be made into posters that will be hung all around the development to warn other children of the dangers of playing on site. I'm sure they will make a very bright and colourful deterrent and I'd like to congratulate Jake on winning the competition."
Pamela Harbot, Head Teacher at Camp Hill Primary School, comments "The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the site safety tour at Bluebell and then having the opportunity to show off their creative skills during the follow up poster design competition.
"Jake, Leah and Ben were thrilled to find out they had won, and Jake in particular was very excited at the thought of having his design made into an actual poster.
"I'd like to thank Barratt for inviting the school to take part in both the visit and the competition and hopefully the children will keep what they have learnt in mind if they are ever playing near working building sites."
