SCHOOL children from Camp Hill Primary School in Nuneaton recently donned their hard hats and high visibility jackets as they learnt about site safety at Barratt Homes' Bluebell development as part of a dedicated site safety visit.

The children, aged nine and 10, toured the award winning development with teachers from their school and Barratt Site Manager Simon Evans to learn about how new homes are built and any hidden dangers.

And the children are now taking part in a competition to design a poster to warn other children about the dangers of a building site.

Pamela Harbot, Head Teacher, commented "The children really enjoyed their visit to Bluebell - it was a great chance for them to see the development and learn all about site safety, as well as a brilliant opportunity for them to find out about all of the new homes that are being built in our community."

And Simon Evans, Site Manager for Barratt Mercia, commented "Many children do not realise the dangers of building sites and see it as a fun place to play. However, this is certainly not the case and many children are hurt and injured every year as a result of playing on building sites.

"Therefore, it is very important to highlight the dangers to children from a young age and this type of visit gives children a 'hands on' experience of a building site and really helps the lessons stick in the children's minds

"To tie in with the visit, all the children involved also have the chance to enter our site safety poster competition, highlighting the dangers of being around a real working building site without proper supervision and safety equipment."
