The local partners behind one of the West Midlands' most significant regeneration projects are celebrating after the scheme won silver in last month's 2010 What House? Awards.
Regional Managing Director Richard Brooke receives the award
The competition, which is widely recognised as the gold standard, is the most prestigious and longest established in the industry.
Barratt Mercia's Bluebell project in Camp Hill, Nuneaton picked up the accolade in the Best Partnership category, reflecting the collective efforts of the housebuilder, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Warwickshire County Council, Pride in Camp Hill (PinCH), Advantage West Midlands, the Princes Foundation, Bromford Housing Group and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).
The What House? judges report described Bluebell as 'community engagement at its best, from a housebuilder acutely aware that you need everyone on board to sustain a new community.'
The silver prize comes hot on the heels of October's annual RegenWM awards, which saw the whole Camp Hill scheme awarded the Chair's Prize for 'Outstanding Project of the decade' and highly commended in the 'Housing Project of the Decade" category.
As one of the country's most deserving areas, this ambitious scheme, valued at £100m, has already helped change the face of the area providing new jobs and training opportunities, free activities for young people and other community engagement projects, a brand new park as well as high quality new homes designed to meet a lifetime of needs.
Andy Peters, Managing Director at Barratt Mercia said, "We absolutely are thrilled to have received a silver award in this year's What House? competition. The award is a stamp of approval from some of the most important people in our sector, endorsing our capacity to operate as a true partner in a challenging and complex environment.
"Most importantly the award gives confidence to Bluebell's new and existing residents confirming that their community is one of the best in Britain."
Chris Egan, Programme Manager for PinCH added, "This award recognises that Camp Hill is changing at a remarkable pace, the success of the project reflects our commitment to partnership working and our close working relationship with the local community".
The What House? competition rewards housebuilders and developers, large and small, across 23 categories. It unveils exciting, dynamic new developers, delivering pioneering projects to their local markets, as well as highlighting the innovations of the industry's major housebuilders who build across the country.
Work to build some 800 new homes at the Bluebell development on the Camp Hill estate began back in October 2009 and is due to complete over the next 10 to 12 years. For more information about the homes at Bluebell please visit the marketing suite open daily from 10am until 5pm or call 02476 399520.
