RETIRED Midlands footballer, Trevor Peake, returned to his roots to show his support for a new junior club in Camp Hill as it plans to embark on its first ever season in the Nuneaton Minor League.
Plus with a brand new kit, thanks to local housebuilder Barratt Mercia, the newly formed Camp Hill Education Sports and Social Football Club's (or C.H.E.S.S. FC for short) under 10s team has everything it needs to get the pre-season friendlies off to a successful start.
Trevor, who was a member of Coventry FC's, FA Cup winning team back in 1987, played for Camp Hill Youth Club as a teenager and joined sponsors Barratt as well as players and supporters of the team, which has been named the Tigers, at the recent unveiling of their new black and red strip at Camp Hill's C.H.E.S.S. centre.
Trevor is currently assistant academy director at Leicester City FC and was only too pleased to be able to show his support for the return of junior football to Camp Hill.
The funding for the Tigers' new strip has come from Barratt Mercia, which based in Meriden, has recently began work on Phase Three of the Camp Hill regeneration project.
The development has been named Bluebell and a sales office is currently open on Queen Elizabeth Road, where local people can obtain details of the homes available.
The first of the properties at Bluebell will be ready to move into in June and over the next 10 to 12 years Barratt will be building some 800 new two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.
Andrew Dauncey, Project Director for Barratt Mercia said, "We are really excited about being the Tigers' first ever sponsor and can't wait to see them in action at their first friendly in March.
"From the beginning our Bluebell project has been about more than just providing houses. We are also doing our best to help facilitate true regeneration and shaping a great place to live, by working closely with Pride in Camp Hill and Advantage West Midlands.
"In fact over the course of the development programme we hope to engage in all kinds of local projects, with the C.H.E.S.S. Tigers getting our involvement off to a kick start!"
Barry Goss, the Tigers' coach added, "Having been brought up in Camp Hill, playing myself for what was then the Camp Hill Youth Club, community football is particularly close to my heart so it is really encouraging to see so many individuals and organisations show their support.
"We are extremely grateful to everyone at Barratt Mercia and the boys are thrilled with their new kit and are raring to go for their first match. In fact the support we've received from all kinds of sources has been fantastic. We are delighted that Councillor Sid Tooth has agreed to be the Club's chairman and that Trevor has shown just a huge interest in helping us develop local talent."
C.H.E.S.S. FC was formally established in January this year following the success of weekly football sessions that commenced last September. It is looking to attract more volunteers, as there is also an under 13 team who will be playing friendly games and will join the league later in the year.
For more information about volunteering or playing with C.H.E.S.S. FC, contact Barry on 0787 905 5944.
For further information about Bluebell, visit the sales office on Queen Elizabeth Road, open daily from 10am until 5pm or call them on 02476 399 520.
The Barratt Mercia sales hotline is also available seven days a week between 8am and 9pm on 0844 811 99 88.
Barratt Mercia was given a five star rating in last year's Home Buyers Federation Customer Satisfaction Survey, in which consumers are asked if they are satisfied with the quality of their new home and whether they would recommend their builder to a friend.
